It is a pleasant change of pace, as the Kratos of past games was a virtually irredeemable bastard who murdered innocents, directly and indirectly, on his often-misguided quests for revenge. The developers ended up with a four-tiered system for side quests: the top tier quests were from the characters Brok and Sindri, the next level from wayward spirits, then treasure maps and artifacts, and the bottom tier were milestones, such as destroying all of Odin's ravens. Heavier enemies that resist Kratos' attacks require intelligent tactics. Realm of the Northern Gods God of War uproots the murderous Kratos from his Greek homeland and drops him into Midgard, the realm at the heart of Norse mythology.
